Our litters...
...are planned by us very carefully. We start with the question which dog would be a suitable mate for our bitch and alsotake into account the ancestors on both sides. It is a kind of detective work as a lot of aspects are to be considered and you are seldom supplied with all the facts you need to know from the start. We are also not afraid of going long distances if we don't find a suitable stud dog in our area.
Our aim is to breed healthy, adaptable, heavily boned Newfoundlands with a sound character. Other essentials are a good head, immaculate teeth and a balanced gait. We tend to prefer the American type, but with firm flews to prevent slavering. We want pups that will be ideal companions to their owners when they are grown-up, good-natured dogs that can be taken everywhere without problems - in a word, typical Newfoundlands. So far we have been very successful in achieving these aims.
We believe that it is important to keep in contact with the people who buy our pups. We want to have news about our "babies" and we want to see them. We try hard to give an answer to every question that may possibly arise. If we are not able to do so at once we will find other sources of information. By all means we will always be there to be asked for advice.
In our contracts of sale we make an early X-ray test for HD etc. an obligation. In this way we get timely information and are able to assess the success or failure of our planning in this respect. For the owner of a "Bärbach" pup it is equally important to know if everything is alright or if a change of food or care is perhaps necessary. The vet will be asked for advice then.
It is of great importance to us to keep our pups very slim (essential for a healthy growth of the bone structure) and to rear them according to the demands of their breed. The young dogs have to undergo a sociallisation process that starts at an early age and has to beginning in our "nursery". Every buyer of a "Bärbach" pup is provided with "directions for the use of a Newfoundland pup" that can be consulted i necessary. If any further questions should arise it is easy to discuss them with them with us and that is why a good personal contact between breeders and buyers is so important.
